Trust is a fundamental principle of life and the foundation of every relationship. When trust is broken in a marriage, the effects can be devastating and it can be very difficult for the relationship to recover. In this episode of the Undone Redone podcast, therapist Adam Calvert provides an in-depth look at the importance of trust in marriage and lays out a process for rebuilding trust when it has been broken. Even if your marriage has not experienced deep betrayal, this foundational teaching on trust can still help and strengthen the relationship with your spouse.
Adam is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist with Wellspring Christian Clinic in Birmingham, AL. At Wellspring, Adam works with those affected by sexual addiction and compulsivity. The therapy involves individual counseling, group therapy and family counseling. He also works with couples to restore intimacy in their marriage. In addition, Adam counsels adults and teenagers dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, anger, trauma, and abuse.
Here are a few quotes from our interview with Adam Calvert:
Not being able to trust someone is painful…..especially if you already have trust issues.
Everyone is on their best behavior when dating, but when we say “I Do”, the masks come off.
A coupleship is only as healthy as the individuals that make it up.
We are built for relationship. When we wall off and isolate, we cannot have healthy relationships.
You have to see each other eye to eye in a relationship. It doesn’t work when someone is on a pedestal.
