About the Heart of Man movie

Watch the trailer here.

The Heart of Man is a cinematic retelling of the Prodigal son story contrasted with the gritty and vulnerable true stories of people who’ve walked out of a moralistic and behavior-centric journey with God.

It’s a story inviting us to leave behind our broken, moralistic and religious way of thinking and relating to God and to others. Once we begin to know who God is (and as a result who we are), we have something to invite the world into. Freedom from performance. Freedom from managing our behavior so we appear acceptable to God. Freedom from our addictions, compulsive behaviors, secrecy and double lives. This film tears the view of confusion over the church’s current identity crisis and enables us to invite the rest of the world to the feast God is throwing all of us.

The Film features emotional interviews with real people going through their mess and subsequent healing, and includes expert witnesses of such men as William Paul Young, author of the NY Times best-selling novel “The Shack”, and Dan Allender, Ph.D, author of “The Wounded Heart.” All of that is interwoven with a retelling of the “prodigal son” narrative story.

Tray and Melody’s Bio:

Tray and Melody had been married for 11 years when Tray’s secret struggle with pornography and sexual sin ripped their family apart. After 6 years of divorce, God brought about a miraculous restoration and they reconciled and have been remarried for almost 9 years. Discovering that true healing is found on the other side of pain, Tray and Melody have a passion to help men, women, and families experience God’s grace in brokenness and to learn to connect deeply with others in authentic community.

Tray and Melody are sought after speakers and teachers on the subjects of marriage, parenting, sexual addiction, and betrayal trauma, and God’s wonderfully scandalous grace. Through Undone Redone, their Birmingham-based non-profit and weekly podcast, Tray and Melody provide life and marriage coaching, recovery intensives, parenting solutions, and help churches establish Christ-centered recovery groups.

They live in Birmingham, AL with their four children and ferocious Peekapoo, Toto.

Melody’s Bio:

A graduate of Samford University with a degree in music education and vocal performance, Melody was a music teacher for years before deciding to raise her children and enjoy teaching fitness for the past 21 years. Melody uncovered her husband’s betrayal in 2000, and has lived through the nightmare of having her family torn apart when her children were 5, 4, 2, and 6 months. After walking her own path of healing and wholeness, Melody and her ex-husband Tray were remarried in 2008. Along with Tray, Melody has been devoted to personally coaching and walking with others who are currently living through the pain and trauma of their partner’s betrayal. She has been committed to encouraging and walking with women for the past seven years and offers hope to betrayed spouses that there is life after their worst day. She is passionate about facilitating a weekly women’s group, educating and creating awareness to students, families and communities on prevention, protecting children in the digital age, and healthy sexuality. She also spends time building relationships with at risk women and sex trafficked victims. Melody enjoys singing, leading worship, entertaining friends, and spending time with her family.
